When people think about bridal jewellery, the focus is almost always on the ring. And rightly so — it’s a symbol that will stay with you for life.
But this past year, something quietly beautiful has begun to happen; wedding earrings are becoming a meaningful part of the story too.
I’ve created more bridal earrings in the last year than ever before — some designed as heartfelt gifts from grooms, others crafted from remodelled family pieces, each one a reflection of the bride’s personality, heritage or style. It’s fascinating to see the focus shift and for couples to see beyond the rings as part of the big day.
Wedding earrings are no longer just an accessory. They’re a moment. A sentiment. A memory in the making. But why?
1. They frame the bride — literally.
Earrings sit closest to the face, which means they subtly influence the whole look. Whether it’s a soft sparkle catching candlelight or something more architectural and modern, earrings can elevate everything without overpowering.
2. They’re a way to honour family history.
This year alone, I’ve remodelled inherited sapphires, and sentimental pearls into fresh bridal designs. There’s something incredibly special about wearing a piece that holds generational meaning, but reimagined so it feels more you. Giving brides earrings that can be worn in multiple ways allows them to wear them daily in a less ‘blingy’ or formal setting.
3. They’ve become a modern love token.
I absolutely adore when a groom commissions earrings as a surprise gift. There is something deeply romantic about gifting jewellery that will be worn on one of the most important days of your lives. They often become the piece the bride continues to wear for anniversaries, milestones and moments that matter.
Diamond Drops with a Twist
Classic, elegant, but updated with elongated silhouettes or mixed cuts for a contemporary feel.
Pearl and Diamond Hybrids
Pearls have made a huge comeback, but with modern settings: asymmetric arrangements, woven diamond accents, or bold sculptural studs.
Coloured Stones for Personality
Birthstones, meaningful colours, or subtle pastel gems tied to the wedding palette — a quiet splash of personality.
Remodelled Heirloom Studs
Taking a family stone and building it into a fresh design — either a sleek bezel or a delicate claw, depending on the bride’s style.
Multi Way Designs
Giving brides options is becoming increasingly popular. They want to be able to wear the earrings daily without feeling over the top. Diamond studs with jackets and detachable drops for example allow three looks in one earring and gives the bride more opportunities for the future. This way she can wear a part of the special day more easily.
They carry a different kind of symbolism. Engagement rings tell the story of a question. Wedding bands tell the story of a promise. But wedding earrings? They tell the story of the day itself — the morning nerves, the final touch before walking down the aisle, the shared smiles, the celebration of the day.
They become part of the memory. And that’s why designing them feels so special.
Whether you’re considering a remodel, a brand-new bespoke design, or something meaningful gifted to you, the possibilities are endless.
January is when a lot of finishing touches to wedding planning really kicks off — so if earrings haven’t been on your radar, they might be worth adding to the list now.
After all, they’re not just for the wedding day.
They’re for every day afterwards that you want to remember how you felt on the most special of days.
